Parting Ways and a New Start in Osaka: The System Behind "On-Demand Massage" That Built 2 Million Yen Monthly Sales in One Year from Scratch

January 2013. I parted ways with the organization I had poured my heart and soul into for many years in a literal “falling out.”
Leaving behind a solid foundation, a trusted team, and stability, I had to start building a new base from scratch. All I had left were the “ability to create systems” I had cultivated over the years and a few connections. In my early forties, it was not a situation that could be viewed with optimism for a fresh start, but I had confidence.
However, I had no time to stand still. I was learning a “business model process” from someone I had professional dealings with in Tokyo. It was a “mobile massage business” centered on web lead generation.
Building a “System” from Scratch: Higashi-Miyakojima, Osaka
Although I set up my base in Higashi-Miyakojima, it was literally “zero” at first. There was no storefront, no staff, and of course, no customers.
The first thing I tackled was applying the “lead generation system” I had refined in the advertising and stock photo businesses to this new industry.
Recruiting Therapists: Gathering people from scratch through advertising and interviews alone.
Website Development: Creating a “selling” flow with my own hands, working through the night.
Google Ads Optimization: Securing orders reliably with bid adjustments to the nearest yen.
Just like in the past with “uchiwa” (private fan businesses), I connected market needs and supply online. The essence of what needed to be done remained the same, only the target shifted from physical “goods” to “services.”
Exceeding 2 Million Yen in Monthly Sales within a Year
A small office in Higashi-Miyakojima. That was my “command center.”
When the phone rang, I answered it, analyzed web data, and conducted interviews repeatedly.
The days continued, pushing me to my physical and mental limits in an unfamiliar industry, especially starting from zero. However, the feeling of meshing each “gear” with my own hands was different from when I was the head of an organization with a few people. While it was difficult having to manage everything myself, I became accustomed to it.
The Moment “The System Began to Operate Autonomously”
I first felt this a few months after launching. Without me giving instructions, orders came in from advertisements, staff moved, and sales accumulated.
As a result, within one year of its launch, this business grew to a point where it finally became profitable, exceeding 2 million yen in monthly sales. My solo struggle in Osaka had borne fruit as a “successful model.”
The Strength of Launching and the “Next” Challenges that Emerged
These approximately two years in Higashi-Miyakojima brought me a deep self-understanding: “I am strongest when it comes to the initial momentum of launching from zero to one.”
However, at the same time, I began to notice that my passion rapidly cooled down when it came to “long-term operation” after the business stabilized and became routine.
“I enjoy creating systems, but perhaps it’s not my true role to maintain them dispassionately.”
The business was going well. Profits were stable.
But my heart began to ache, seeking the next “unknown.”
It was digital power that would accelerate “systemization” for a broader range of people, independent of any specific industry. Although it had no form or shape at the time, the path that would lead to my subsequent immersion in web development and, eventually, to the current “AI agents,” had already quietly begun during this lonely struggle in Higashi-Miyakojima.
